Jennifer Hudson will play a real American idol in “Respect,” a biopic in regards to the lifetime of Aretha Franklin. And we’re in for a giant deal with, in keeping with costar Tate Donovan.

Donovan will play John Hammond, the file producer credited with discovering Franklin when she was simply a young person and signing her to Columbia Data.

“Wow, she is one thing else,” the actor instructed TooFab when requested in regards to the upcoming film. “To begin with, she’s such a sweetheart. She’s one of many kindest folks I’ve ever met.”

“She’s so proficient and there is a scene the place she sings in a recording studio and everybody’s jaw dropped,” he added. “All of us forgot our cues, what we have been purported to say and do, we simply sat and listened. It was nice. She’s superb. The script is unbelievable, an incredible solid, I am curious how it may come out.”

The film was in pre-production when Franklin handed away in August 2018, with Hudson having already “been anointed by Aretha herself” to play her within the film.

At this time, on what would have been the legendary singer’s 78th birthday, Hudson shared a tribute to the performer on social media.

“Blissful Birthday to the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin,” she wrote. “Sending you all my love and considering of you all the time.”

The film will hit theaters October 9, 2020.
