A volcanic undersea eruption has created an island within the Pacific Ocean close to Tonga whereas sinking one other small island close by.

The previous island of Lateiki is now submerged, in keeping with the information web site Matangi Tonga.  The web site reviews, citing geologist Taaniela Kula, that the brand new Lateiki island is about 328 toes vast and 1,312 toes lengthy. The brand new island appeared 394 toes west of its smaller, now submerged predecessor.

The sooner Lateiki island first appeared in 1995.
